About VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide)

Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) is a 28-amino-acid signaling peptide with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activity in laboratory studies. As the synthetic drug aviptadil it was tested through Phase 3 for COVID-19 respiratory failure, but the controlled trials did not show a clear survival benefit and it is not approved. Its popular use in chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS) protocols is not backed by controlled clinical trials.
