About DNSP-11
DNSP-11 is an 11-amino-acid peptide from the pro-region of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor, predicted to be cleaved from the proprotein at flanking dibasic sites. Its animal data is genuinely notable: a single injection into the substantia nigra of a normal adult rat was taken up rapidly into neurons and raised resting dopamine and its metabolites for up to 28 days, and in a 6-hydroxydopamine rat model of Parkinson's it improved apomorphine-induced rotational behaviour and increased nigral dopamine levels. In vitro it supports survival and neurite outgrowth of fetal mesencephalic neurons. The route is the whole story, though. That single injection went directly into the substantia nigra — stereotactic intracranial delivery. Nothing about that result implies a subcutaneous injection of an 11-mer would reach dopaminergic midbrain neurons. There are no human trials.
